I've been working on one of the free-form poles to try and fill in more of the white space. Residents have continued to assist in painting, but a lot of them seem to enjoy just being in the room and chatting while we work. The atmosphere definitely lightens after I've begun to paint. For instance today I went in and before I even got into the building some people asked if they could paint too. Those that were already sitting in the dining area when I got there were sitting silently, reading or charging their phones, but after the painting started people began to chat more and joke around. I find it very enjoyable to be part of these conversations.

3/8/16 SFH
3/8/16
Throughout last week, Sarah and I worked on our project. We decided that the last pillar and the center pillar would both be sort of "free-form" and have received a lot of assistance and feedback from residents. Today I went back and continued to work on my own. A few of the people at SFH started to paint coral and different blues on the furthest pillar to the back, and I love painting fish, so that one will most likely have an ocean theme. The center pillar (the one with all the purple) definitely needs some more love and attention so that will be what I work on next. Now that I am staying for the full time, I feel that towards the end, the project definitely won't look as rushed/messy as it currently does.

Sarah and I have been coming throughout the week (Including today, Monday the 29th) to finish drawing out the tessellations on each pillar. We've numbered most of the spaces where specific colors will be painted in. People at SFH seem eager for us to start painting and quite a few have offered to help when we start. We will likely start the painting process during our next visit.

Sarah and I spoke with the staff members about our proposal and they seemed excited about it. We planned out what to buy, and decided that we should come in on more than just Thursdays in order to move things along better. We would also advertise around to see if we'd get anyone to volunteer and help us paint the pillars at certain times and days during the week.

Sarah and I spent most of the visit talking with some of the people at SFH (including the resident cat). We also worked more on our idea involving the pillars inside the main building and planned out what should be on them. We were thinking there should be tessellations on them along with some organic shapes like flowers(?) to symbolize structure and growth, and also to help improve the building's aesthetic qualities.

First visit to St. Francis House, Sarah Air and I spoke with a few of the people there. We walked around the complex to get a closer look at what we could work with, and then we sat and brainstormed for a majority of the time. We came up with an idea involving the pillars on both the inside and outside of the main building.
